The accounts differ on what occurred on the journey, but what we do know is that Don Ramon died in Havana en route to Madrid. For almost 200 years, there have been reports of paranormal activity coming from this house.

Per Deadline, Whelan is giving access to the home to the creators of "The Conjuring," a 2013 movie based on an alleged haunted house in Rhode Island. The filmmakers are currently working on creating a new horror franchise based on the LaLaurie mansion's macabre history. She was born Marie Delphine Macarty on March 19, 1787, to a wealthy family in New Orleans. The Macarty men had military backgrounds, most were landowners, and her father, Louis Barthélémy de Macarty, was knighted as the Chevalier of the Royal and Military Order of St. Louis. By 1794 her family had a 1,344 acres plantation between Bartholomew and Independence, backing up to St. Claude Avenue, and next door to the famously wealthy Count Pierre Philippe Mandeville de Marigny.
The story says that one of the slaves had their bones broken numerous times, and set in unnatural positions, so that when she moved, her limbs remained crooked and bent, her gait reminiscent of a crab's. Another slave was said to have had a hole drilled into his head, with a wooden spoon sticking out--An obvious attempt to stir the brains of this poor soul. Allegedly, a different person had their skin peeled back to expose the tissue and muscle to the naked eye. The story also claims that another slave had his intestines removed from his body and wrapped around his naked waist.
When area residents rushed to the scene to help, they resorted to breaking down the doors to the slave quarters after LaLaurie refused to provide the key. They found seven enslaved people locked inside whose bodies had been mutilated. Other rumors said that dead bodies were also found in the attic, their corpses mutilated beyond recognition.
